Destinations
Dominican Republic

The second largest island in the Caribbean and the second most popular wedding destination.  On this island you have three different "views" to the local culture.  There is the European side to Santo Domingo with their rolling residential hills on the South side and Colonial architecture.  On the North is the more laid back with Atlantic waters and cappuccino sand beaches along with the mountainous backdrop.  Then there is the turquoise waters and white sand beaches of Punta Cana.

Dominican Republic Weddings

Trips Down The Aisle - Weddings on the go! has been working with destination wedding couples to the Caribbean for the past 10 years.  All of our consultants are Certified Destination Wedding Specialists by the Destination Wedding Association  plus the various island's Tourism Boards and member of the Caribbean Tourism Organization.  We value our expert knowledge to the Caribbean.

The beautiful white-sand beaches, tropical turquoise blue seas, impressive mountain ranges veined with spectacular rivers and waterfalls, are just part of the Dominican Republic's appeal. Whether you're looking to party, relax or explore, the Dominican Republic has a lot to offer.

Steer a small boat through endless mangrove forests in search of gentle manatees. Spy on lovesick humpback whales in the Bahia de Samana. And once you've had your fill of this exquisite island's natural wonder, get back to civilization and prepare to party.

The locals throw festivals, parties and carnivals like there's no tomorrow. Folks in the Americas' first European city, Santo Domingo, don't just spend their time admiring the fine colonial architecture gracing their home. Nope, this town has not one, but two complete Carnivals, complete with parades, elaborate floats, lots of live music and plenty of dancing in the streets. Pre-Lent Carnivals are celebrated in Santiago, Cabral, Monte Cristi and La Vega as well. If that's not enough, check out the country's two major merengue festivals, the annual Latin Music Festival and the national surfing and windsurfing championships.

Wedding Requirements

Documents:

With this destination you will need to do the paper work prior to your arrival.  This is very important to get the documentation correct otherwise you will not be legally married.

You both will need valid passports as proof of citizenship. Make certain your passport has not expired and is valid for at least six months after your arrival date in Dominican Republic.  We suggest an original copy of your birth certificate (with a raised seal) in addition to your valid passport..

If either of you have been previously married, then bring along the original divorce decree. A widow(er) must bring both the original marriage and death certificates. These documents must have the raised seal from the court, because photocopies are not acceptable.

Plus the following:

  • Original Government Issued Birth Certificate,
  • Single status affidavit in Spanish for each party, joint affidavits not acceptable. These must be notarized and state if the bride or groom has ever been married, divorced, or widowed.
  • Divorce decree or death certificate for partner in Spanish.
  • According to Dominican Law a divorced woman has to wait 10 months before remarrying unless she is marrying the same man she divorced or she was divorced under special DR law. Then the ruling is a waiting period of 24 hours.

Once you have the documents they must be translated into Spanish and be processed through a Dominican Republic consulate and/or service.  Our company uses the services of a United States based company who has been working with couples for many year.

Fees:

The fees are normally handle through the United States company that we work with to take the documentation through the proper legal procedures.  Please be warned that many Dominican Republic judges have been raising their fees and might not be included within the wedding package.  If you are using our company we will instruct you on what the fees are currently prior to booking your wedding at the venue.  Please make sure you always ask!

Your marriage must also be solemnized or celebrated in the presence of two or more witnesses, apart from the judge and translator.

There is no waiting period for Dominican Republic weddings.

All weddings performed in the Dominican Republic are done in Spanish.  Normally at resorts they provide a translator in the wedding package.
